International / CASE IH corn head advice

I've been farming for a number of years and have run a number of used combines of various makes, but currently have the best machine I have ever run, a CASE IH 1640. Bought it with a 16.5' grain head - was not raising corn at the time. Planted some this year for rotational purposes (I think I must have caused the price crash...) and am looking at several heads. 4 or 5 row wide. 844, 944, 1044, 1054. Pros & cons of each. 844 is the cheapest. All in good condition. I've run JD & Gleaner corn heads in the past, but never a IH or CASE IH. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks! I knew I had seen some discussion regarding IH heads but didn't have any luck looking through the archives. I saw a comment in one discussion where someone made the comment that the 800 series, specifically a 844 - was the best head IH ever made. That made me feel a little better about looking at an older unit. Not planning on spending a lot of money, and don't have many acres to harvest, but want to try to make a competent decision. Mostly looking to see if someone advises to avoid a particular model or series at any price. Thanks again.

Where are you located? I often run across IH 800 series heads on our local CL listings. I am about 25 miles East of Effingham IL on I70, or 45mile West of Terre Haute IN>
