did you try the blue bait blocks? I've had good luck. the best thing is to clean to snot out of that combine, and get all the "food" out of it.
 
Irish Spring soap bars help drive mice away, might work for rats too, and the smell is better than moth balls.
 
Yeah...cause you don't want him in there. The 1660 I just bought and almost didn't buy because of strong rodent smell had a rat living in it at one time. He was long gone because the food was gone and it was in a vacant storage lot for a good month or more. But the memory lived on by smell and he tore up some foam insulation left a lot of droppings about. I hate rats worse than anything.

If he were still in there a dare him to leave. I have an army of cats and they don't miss much.
 
I knew a girl in college that had a rat that lived in her car. She never could get it out. It kind of turned into her mascot. I wasn't so interested in her - she was kind of a slob. Imagine that.
