Gleaner Header-10' on a F2

I'm checking on a pickup header that is said to be a 10' that fits on a F2. It has the top hooks and has an orange auger. It doesn't have the variable speed contraption on the back of the header to change the reel speed from the cab.

Could this be a factory 10'? Or could it be one that may have been cut down?

Likely came from an E, EIII, maybe K? I have one that fits the F2, has a windrow pickup on it. The throat has been modified and quik-tach hooks added. Just realizing now, maybe not an E cuz the E has a different drive system. I have some F literature...don"t think they offered a 10 foot table for that.

Did Gleaner offer a 10' factory pickup head and attachment for an F2 and maybe a K? It doesn't look as rugged, with heavier metal, on the drive end.

My literature shows a 10 foot grain head for the K, 13 foot for the F. But, smallest pickup header for the K was 13 foot, F was 13 foot. Not saying you couldn"t put a pickup on a 10 foot header. Mine is handier than a 13 foot.

I've seen 10 foot dummy heads for f, they were made by
someone else, not at all like a Gleaner head. But work well.

In fact they just sold one a couple days ago, couldn't get $100
for it, they -said- it came from Gleaner machine, but the
hookup didnt look quite right. It was obviously adaptable to
different throats and combines from the plates in it, think I took
a pic see if I can include it here. Was a shame to see it sell so
cheap.

Then, not sure what I got with my M3, the header looks like a Gleaner, but seems to small for an M, what they were doing in those days....

Thanks. Helpful as always.

Thanks for the pic. I do have a Sund pickup that is mounted on a orange-augered L-M 13' head (it has 13 stamped on the serial # plate). A lot of good that does me. Is yours a 13'?

Paul, if I knew that was selling that cheap, I would have had you buy it and I would have paid trucking back to NJ! They don't exist in this part of the country.

I have got a factory dummy head for the F series. Has got the same orange 2 belted pickup unit that I had for my K , but its on a small head that doesn"t look like its set up for a sickle and reel. I don"t think its quite 10' wide, but it might be. 10' grain drill sitting in front of it in the shed and they about the same width. Don"t know if I"ll ever use it, but it looked so much handier than putting a pickup unit on a 13" head, that gave me a reason to buy it. It has the F mounting hooks and hasn"t been modified.

By the looks of the center area with the three holes......I"d say the pipe crossbar that matches the M/L thresher housing would bolt in there. Maybe a similar assy with hooks for the F model.

Auction was 1.5 hours away from me, was usual as the 87 up year old owner had cut back to farming 300 acres but bought all new machinery 5 years ago, JD 66xx loader tractor had under 50 hours, Kubota had under 200 hours, 2388 combine was under 400 hours. So went for the sights, everything sold very high as it should have.

I had no trailer, and really didnt look over the dummy head much - don't know why it was there no other gleaner stuff, was a shot NH combine with dummy head on it for grain.

Anyhow I believe the belts woulda fit my m3 header and I have a fraying belt, I coulda made a few bucks buying this one and leaving the iron set for crying out loud - missed opportunity, but I just wasn't in the right mind to start bidding and it was done and over before the brain got in gear.

Also I have quit a bit of excess stuff right now, getting hard to explain these great deals to the wife any more....... ;)
