Bought an old Gleaner combine, tag says Model E, serial number 438105.
Two questions, what year is this, AND does the front/head/deck come off for transport. Are there any directions on how to remove it (oops I guess that is a third question) Any info will help.
Thanks Joe

Hi Joe,

Welcome to the forum. I see this is your first post. When you bought the combine, did you get the owner's manual with it? If not, it is absolutely essential to have it. e-bay might have one.

The manual will have lots of specifics for switching between crops. I have been running combines my whole life, but I still have to look at that manual a few times a year to remind myself of certain settings.

I would double check the serial number tag. it looks like you have too many numbers. 438105 seems too high. I think they only produced about 17,000 E combines.

I can't answer you on the head removal, because it would have been different than my gleaner K/EIII. I do know it was a very popular machine and there should be plenty of info on it, online and with these forum members.

We use to have a C2 gleaner, and it had them funky wedge pins at the top and bottom of the feeder house where you could disconnect the header. You kinda need the special tool that came with those combines in order to get the wedge pins loose, at one end of the tool there is a hole where you stick on top of the wedge pin and push in to release it, on the other is a slot for closing the concave trap door, and a flat bar used for prying I assume. I hope this helps you some.
