Gleaner E - I assume!

I came across this in North Alabama the other day while driving with the family. I went back this afternoon and took a few pics of it. I am assuming it is a Gleaner E based on the first letter of the serial number which begins with an "E". It has a for sale sign on it and I have a the phone number if anyone might be interested in it. I do not know who owns it or anything about it. Just thought it was a cool looking older combine. Would like to help it find a home or at least someone that could use something from it. I grew up in MS and no one in our area had any of these that I know of. The only combines that I remember on the farms around there were either green or red.

That's an E alright. And I think it's a later one. Nicely equipped. Factory bin extension with elevator extension also. Has had a straw spreader on it. Rotary air screen. Cab. Trash guards on the fan intakes. All options. Great combine.

Thanks for the info. I know absolutely nothing about Gleaners but there are a good bit of them in North AL. I made the post just because I think they are cool looking machines and I was hoping someone would do as you did and post some information about it.

If I am not mistaken that looks like an EIII or E3, Last E version before it became the K came out. For sure its a late model machine that looks to be in good condition. I am not sure I'm ready for a 1000 mile trip for a combine, To bad good lookin machine. Bandit

No. If this had a designation, it would probably be an EII. But there never was such a differentiation until the EIII.

There were considerable changes on the EIII. The easiest way to describe it is that an EIII and K were practically the same machine but for the engine.

Back in the 80s dad had an EIII that looked just about like this one. It had the EIII decal on the grain tank (and the same grain tank) and the 3 strips like this one on the grain tank, And had the long unloading auger. The cab was different as it had an after market cab that was tall enough that you could stand strait up and still have head room. The engine on it was the same as a D17 series 4 and had the same rotary screen on it. Now the big difference was the tail end, It had the back hood and chopper just like a K but everything else was just like the E Gleaner right down to the steering arm going down the side. The feeder house was different in the fact it was set up for the 4 pins for the header ( that's the head that was on it) but it did have the quick tach bar across the top. I wish we would have kept that combine as it was different. Bandit

It didn't have the wider bin, where the sides were flared out a little near the bottom?
What about the header drive countershaft down under the throat? Or the fan drive- variable speed, or movable doors like the one pictured?
I guess if I'm mixed up I'll have to go to AGCO parts and do some research. But their site is difficult enough I guess I won't!

Bob like I said it looks just about like the one in the pictures, Different after market cab same grain tank and it did have variable speed cylinder in the cab. I don't remember if it had variable speed fan or not but it did have the same adjustable shields for the fan, And like I said it did have the tail end hood and chopper like a K, It was an odd little machine and I wish we still had it. I still don't know if it was one of those they were trying something new and it got out by accident. Who knows. I do remember it was fun to get parts for sometimes. Bandit

Interesting. AC did make some odd running changes in machines. I did get on AGCO parts and found that my memory had not totally failed. The EIII and K share the same enlarged(flared, sloping sided) bin.

I don't know what they are asking. I saw it and
just went back and made the pics. I got the phone
number but didn't call.
