This years harvest for me has been a good one. 75-80 bushel Barley, Oats pushing 100 bpa, other than this last field I have not had too much lodged/down crops but this one had about 15 acres of it blown one direction, hope everyone is coming along as well, lot of odd weather this year

CNT, I also plant about 20 acres of oats each year in NE WI. Usually make about a 100 bpa too. Only difference is I use a green combine. Just curious as to what variety of oats you plant in Wyoming. I plant one variety called Ogle and another called Badger. Ogle was developed in Illinois and Badger in Wis. The elevator near me is paying $4.00 a bushel for oats. Al

Al, what I have is "Jerry Oats" I have no idea where they were developed but my seed stock last year came from Salt Lake City Utah, back in 73 we had a pair of JD machines cut for us, a new 440 dsl with a 16' header and a used 6600 with a 18', they did a good job and I ran both of them some that year for the men who owned them, I still know where the 4400 is

That's great news. I'm glad someone can raise good oats. Because that's one thing I can eat successfully!

No oat harvest here because I never got any planted, because it was too wet. Ground didn't dry to work properly until late May. But then corn planted end of May, first of June had perfect growing weather, with just enough moisture that it pollenated by the end of July, which is just right here. Then it needed water. Someone flipped the switch and we got water just in time. But it won't quit. Aug. 3 we got a flood as bad as any I've ever seen. Some 6" tile I had just installed, only hand covered, got washed and blown right out. It's been cold and rainy ever since.

Local Co-op here won't buy any oats. Say they can buy better oats then can be raised around here.

Looks great! The oats in our area did not yield well at all due to the very wet spring. Many guys trying to sell it were having problems due to low test weight.

We planted "Horsepower". Did ok considering the conditions it had. We also combine for the neighbor, he had six acres of Jerry, did great. He had the only nice field of oats in northeast Iowa. Test weight was good, yielded decent and was standing well. He waited and planted his two weeks later when it was more fit. Latest crop he ever planted.

Thanks for the pictures.

I have had good luck with the new Badger oats. Ogle lodge too easily in my exp. Give Esker a try sometime, also a WI oat I think. They yield well and are very resistant to lodging.

Kell, I did try Esker a couple of years ago but it didn't seem to yield quite as good as Badger or Ogle. Had Badger last year and it lodged almost worse than the Ogle. But we had a bad storm (tornado) that took down several barns within a 1/2 mile of me. So this year I planted 10 acres Ogle and 10 Badger to see which is better. So far both are standing good. Hope to start next week if the rains stop in my part of the state. Al
