Massey 27 combine

Found an old Massey Harris model 27 RT 953-902 self propelled combine in this old barn. The serial number is 99820 . The serial tag says it has a model 251 motor, which I assume (and looks like) an old Chrysler flat head 6. Can someone enlighten me on any information about this old combine.

Yes, It is a Chrysler flathead 6 cylinder engine. The engine serial number will tell you what year the combine is. I will attach photo's to show you. Most likely a 1951 or 1952 model year. I have never ben able to figure out what the model numbers stand for. I have heard they all had a meaning just nobody can remember what. The engine serial number will have a serial number with a C or a Star. The C stands for a Canadian engine and the Star and American engine. The internal parts are different between the two engines. Do you have any photo's? If it's in good shape you should save the machine. Masseypride

I was told back then that the Canadian engines had larger pistons and a longer stroke, resulting in more HP than U.S. engines.

Of course, we had the Canadian Chrysler Industrial engines in our Cockshutt combines. Loved to listen to those engines purr when they were working hard.

The motor serial number is 26216C-52. The combine is located at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum in Vista, CA in their harvester barn , kind of forgotten, and looks like it hasn't turned a wheel in 20+ years. They also have a huge old Holt hillside combine in that barn, that was either pulled by a Holt 60 or many teams of work horses. I will try to take some photos next time I get down there.
