Hauling a JD 300 Picker

Hey guys, have any of you hauled one of these on a gooseneck trailer or are they just a semi item. Seams the guys in Iowa, Wisconsin have all of these and I would like to find one to purchase and use here in Indiana.

Thanks

I hauled the one I have from northern Ohio to West Central Illinois. 97 Dodge 2500 pulling a deckover gooseneck trailer.

If I am thinking correct the wheels set to wide to set on the trailer. So did you set the picker on the trailer with a lift and used blocks underneath the frame. It looks like if you remove the wheels it would measure about 9'6" wide. Did you leave the head on?

Thanks

Earl, I cant remember exactly how we loaded it. I think we had one small tractor hooked to the picker hitch (picker hitch in the transport position and the tractor with the hitch offset) and a loader tractor with a wide bucket parallel to the trailer, supporting the wheel on the side that would overhang the trailer. Then, we, more or less, just backed it on. I do remember it was kind of a tense situation loading it! But that was all the loading equipment available to us at the seller's location. We then blocked up the off side on a large wood block under the axle. When we got home we used a loader tractor on the hitch, another loader on one side, and a forklift on the other side. Picked the machine up and pulled the trailer out from under it. Mine has a two row wide head, a 244. I hauled the whole unit assembled. It did hang over the non traffic side (right side) of the trailer a foot or foot and a half, maybe a bit more. Hope this helps some.

I looked into loading one once. Good thing about the 300 JD is the head comes off easy as it is essentially a combine head. I Considered taking off the tong and the elevator.

In the end I decided it was easier to pull it home with the 343 head on. I pulled it behind my pickup 150 miles right through Saginaw Mi. Did about 45mph, I thought it towed easy.

Just depends on how hard you want to work to load it

Thanks Doug, what you described is kind of what I had pictured. My trailer is 35' long and even thought about maybe loading the head separate up front. Then maybe, it would not be so tense loading the husker part. I hope the over hang don't get me in much trouble also.

Thanks for the comments guys. It is nice to hear how it went for other people.
