Filler plates

JD 9400, gotta do some windrowed oats. Usually I leave the plates in cause it is a few acres but this year I have a couple days of combining. Leave them in or take them out???

Take them out and leave them out until you start on corn.

Take em out!They can come loose at the higher speeds.Then it goes BOOM and you buy a new combine.....That happened to my 45 combine.The friend who bought it from me did not remove them.It blew up before he made the first round.

If the corn is under 30%, you don't need the filler
plates in corn either. Only time I used them was
for high moisture corn to be put in a silo.

My neighbor, who does probably 200 ac of small grains a year with his 9550 walker, leaves them in. He did with the 9500 he had previous, too.

On a JD 9400 leave them in if you want. They will not COME out. They are held in differently than the ones Delta Red has on his JD 45. I never remove mine. I have ran thousands of acres of oats and wheat. I never had an issue with them in. I have had issue with them out. You can't thresh out tough oats as well with them out.
