CIH 1660 lights wiring.

Running continuity checks on the light wiring today as long as I can stand to do it. Every kid in the neighborhood that wanders by gets asked if he wants to sit in a combine. And while you're up there...could you flick that switch on and off a couple times? Not near enough kids around here today. Honestly, only my own.

The front work lights have two connection points. One is a flat connector with two places for male spade connections. There are male spade connections on the back of the lights that this hooks to. The harness wires to these connectors are white w/stripe and black respectively. The second connection to the light is a red wire at a separate connection. I cannot find a combination of these wires to give me a hit on the VOM meter. In the world of 12v that I am used to, red was hot and black (and sometimes white) were grounds. This has two batteries connected together so I am thinking 24v unless there is a resistor to drop it down to standard lights? Since I have not found a shop book yet, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the lights on this combine? Something you can either post a copy or at least tell me what each of these wires is (hot, ground, etc)? I would be happy with just a description of what each wire is. Probably can take it from there.

Also, if I have to trace these wires back are they in the cab roof or side panel?

I remember running into this problem when I replaced a couple of the cab lights with HID's. Best I can remember is there are 3 wires running to each light. I believe it was the white one with red stripe that I tied into to get my 12V power. Black should be ground. Can't remember what 3rd wire is for. I did this 4 yrs ago so memory is fuzzy. And the whole system is 12 volts, not 24. Batteries are not tied together in a way to produce 24 volts

12v...good to know, makes things a bit easier. Wondering if that red light is for high beams? Just a thought. If I can get someone to commit to a couple hours to give me a hand...all they have to do is sit in the cab, listen to the radio and operate the switches...I can probably trace down any problems. I used to put in alarm systems and stereos in 1970's era cars and trucks back in the day, should be able to handle this. Hey Matt, do you remember where the harness ran around the cab? Obviously it is inside the right side access panel for the dash wiring but is it also in the cab roof? And does it run down inside any of the cab uprights? This would be prime mouse nest area and the harness is likely toast in there if the mice were in residence.

The wiring harness makes its way to the cab top via the inner rear corners of the cab. The corners are removable, 6 phillips head screws at each corner. There is a large bundle of wires in the corner near the gear selector.

It is a good idea to remove these corner panels in the "off" season. Mice don't like light, so provide all that you can.

I never traced the harness so I can't help you there

I will have a glance in there. The smell in the cab is not going away even with the window and door propped open, outside in the sun and breeze, for most of a week straight. Some of this is likely just old combine sour grain smell, although the unit is clean and haven't found any sour grain in it. Still smells mostly of mouse to me so I would like to find the source and bleach it out before more move in. So if it goes into the roof and thence down the back corners I should be able to check continuity at either end and find any shorts or breaks. Appreciate the help.
