Just got this combine and went over it and stuck it in the wheat today, but after a little use the head would not come down, have any of you had this problem, Thanks, Animal

First thing is solenoids beside cab. Also check for 12 volts and connections. For solenoid, interchange with a known working one.

I"m assuming you have the head locked out of flexing.

Did you maybe bump the auto head control switch?

If the head is locked out of flex it will not go down in auto setting it has to be in manual on the rocker switch.

Might check it?

Does it go up, or not move at all?

On my Gleaner (whole different machine I know....) the header would raise, but not lower. Took a long time for me to find a popit valve (little metal pin with plastic shoulder seat) had cracked the plastic shoulder, so the ring would move on the pin and mess up the hydraulics. Even had the dealer's combine pro stumped on that one for a while. He had the popit in his hand and did not see the crack allowing it to move either......

Probably not helpful to you.

On the 1440-1480 there is also an engine oil pressure solenoid that shuts hydraulic function down if it goes bad.

I don"t know if teh 1420 has one or not, but just a thought.

Can't help you, but I would be interested in knowing how you like that little guy down the road. I came within inches of buying one here locally. It was just a really nice little machine but there was clearly issues that needed repair and folks here put me right off it due to parts issues. It will take me a year or two to get used to the monster that is sitting on the driveway today.

Bingo, Gary that was exactly the problem. Unhooked the wire from the head to the combine and she works great. I have got to get a book on the 820 head, got an operators, and service manual, but that does not cover the head. Thanks to everyone for their replies.
