1959 john deere 95 combine

HELLO ALL! I have trouble with keeping the engine running on my 95 217 gas engine. We recently replaced the points & condensor with an electronic ignition. We also replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, dist. cap & rotor. Fuel system is fine, drained the fuel tank and refilled with fresh gas, electric fuel working fine, manual pump getting fuel to the carburator. engine runs for awhile then just dies, no spitting or sputtering like its a fuel issue. I am thinking coil at this point? anyone else thought are welcome! thanks-happy

check what others mentioned, also check to see if the coil is hot one sign of a bad coil, weak spark can sometimes be misjudged for a good one, unhook the wire on the coil from the switch check for voltage, something simple most of the time gets overlooked, our hi-boy when we first got would run perfect sometimes as much as a day or so then it would start shutting off,and wouldn't start back until the hood was raised and checked for a possible problem, couldn't find anything wrong,it would start right up and run fine for a while, finally the light came on, it would start after raising the hood after a closer look under the hood I spotted the choke cable was being pushed by the hood almost to the positive post on the coil fastened it away from the coil no more problems, I just couldn't see the forest for the trees

Had trouble with mine years ago. Sometimes it wouldn't start also. Finally traced it to a fuse in the line from steering column to motor. It was located in the line running under the grain tank. The wire had been stretched over the years and the ends of the fuse pod weren't touching the fuse enough to ground it.

Inline fuse on right side of combine.
Harness has several wires in it but 1 comes out of the harnes & has a fuse unite on it, its not geting curent.
