With folks starting to bring in wheat I guess I better bow out and leave you fellas to more important matters. Yesterday I drove a combine for the the first time. Sounds silly to those who do it every day but it was a real thrill for me. A really cute little IH 1420. Today I own a combine. Sadly, it is not my first love...the old gleaner. Nor is it my first date...the sweet little IH 1420. No, I went for the Case International 1660. Seemed to be the hands down favorite of most here and it was the nicest machine I looked at with the possible exception of the R52. I know that I ripped on it a little...smelled bad (guess what? ALL old combines stink!) and it had tape all over it (was only holding the wiring harness out of harms way). Rocker switches down inside the console (oops...wrong combine). This was an auction sale and I did not care to "talk it up" on a combine forum. It is a great machine with a couple of issues that I know of and a lot I do not know of but most everything I know is things I can fix. Turns out it was owned by a family I know so I was able to talk to the seller and get feedback. I paid $10,500...less than the F3 the guy was selling. Nice big deck on top...maybe I can rent it out as a party barge?

I want to thank you all for your patience and help. This is truly a wonderful forum to hang out on. I will be back with lots of questions. Now I need a corn head....

That should make you a nice combine. I think you made the right choice, sounds like a good price. Nice to have plenty of capacity. I know I'm really happy with the 1480 we bought last year.

Appreciated! I can use all the propping up I can get. I hate these on-line consignment auctions! They make me a jumble of nerves.

Thanks! Has a lot redone in the working parts. I have a working relationship with these people...they process all our poultry. He takes care of his place and would have kept this machine if he had not lucked into a steal on a newer one. I just wish I had known he was selling it before he gave it to the auction house.

I have always been a gleaner fan but when you get up close to them the red ones can steal the show. Lot of the old Gleaners seem to be really rough. But then I am comparing apples to oranges. The gleaners I have been looking at were much older than the IH I bought. So they come up a little short on condition by comparison. Still love Gleaners.

In Michigan I watch Albrecht and Sheridan. Sheridan tends to have high end stuff, I have known them the longest, and I bought the 1660 from them. There is a platinum bid service out of Grand Rapids. Doesn't have a lot of stuff. Last year I bought a really nice cone bottom bin for less than $250 from them. I miss the old days where I stood next to the guy I was bidding against.
