jd 4400 a/c swap?

I have a 4400 combine without a/c and a neighbor up the road has a 4400 with a/c and a blown engine with trees growing up through the machine. I was just wondering how big of a job it would be to take the a/c components off the blown machine and put on mine. It is a factory a/c. Both machines have the same diesel engine. I am not sure of the year on either machine but they both do have rotary screens and the cabs look the same. Just wondered if any of you guys have ever done a swap like that and your thoughts on it. Thanks!

It can be done but I don't know how big a job it would be. I have the results of such a swap in my 4400. PO did it the same way you are talking about. looks factory.
 
Well I couldn't see why a person wouldn't be able to do the swap as long as everything was there. Does the a/c in your machine seem to work good? I don't really plan on fooling with it until this winter, it's so hot here that I would say the Copperheads, and Rattlesnakes are out in force and that junk combine looks like a prime place for them to be!
 
Worked great as long as it had R-12 in it. When that leaked out tried Freeze 12. Didn't seem to work as good. Don't use it much anymore so havent converted to R-134.
 

I did a swap like that years ago on my White, out of a similar machine at a wrecker. I was able to remove all the components without opening up the system, it still had a bit of freon in it after I got it put in my combine! Added a bit more and it held for two or three years after. I had to fabricate the compressor mount, your's sounds easy as all the hardware should be there.
 
You need to look at the cabs real close. JD used several different cab styles on the 100 series combines. The changes where small ones but it effected the AC system. The lines/condensers where a little different.
