neighbors have two late model jd combines one has a 25' the other a 30' flex head don't know the series of the heads but both have the narrow blades that resemble a tiger jaw set up,was at ones shop the other morning he was complaining that he had just started cutting wheat and had already broke 2 new cutter bars at 900 dollars a piece and that all the area dealers had them on backorder none to be found local, was at his brothers that evening same scenario he was pulling out a broke 30' cutter bar and said 1300 dollars out 1300 dollars in, he had just put it in the day before, both maintain their equipment well ,is there a design problem or what, the one with the 25' said he wasn't going to keep replacing that style bar he was going back to the old style set up with wide blades if possible

Dont know about combines...But once I set up a windrower sickle (14' single). It was a 'cutting fool'!It would outcut a conventional standard section hands down in grass. There wasnt much difference in alfalfa.I bought about 20 boxes(of 10 each) of those two point/Tiger jaw sections at a sale for a dollar a box. never broke a sickle with those

I have used the type cutter bar that you are talking about for several years and yes they will break once in a while especially in small grains like wheat. Normally the problem is the guards are worn out when they break. One needs to look at the ledger part of the guard and if that sharp flat surface is worn and rounded they need to be changed. They work great in soybeans as you can drive as fast as the combine's capacity and that is what they were disigned to do. You can also notice that the knife will start to pound when those guards get worn if you crowd the machine any

Make sure they check the timing too, if they changed from wide sections the timing needs to be changed. Also will need to be changed going the other way as well.
