1986 Gleaner R6, has been well taken care of by a local older guy farmed part-time and is retiring, 2800 hrs. He was also a full time independent equipment mechanic. Price is good and comes with everything including 6 row corn head, 20' bean head, real nice header trailer, extra hydro and rebuilt extra engine, tons of belts and parts, cage was rebuilt 10 yrs. and few hours ago. But in general do these have a good reputation? I'm not talking about an R60, rather the R6 built for one year before Deutz switched to the air cooled engine? One concern I have is the only one year on this model, and I've heard real bad stuff on the N6's. Supposedly the Indiana Caterpillar dealers now work on/parts for the Gleaners given that they now deal Agco Gleaners and Challengers.

Sounds like you found a good package. Regardless of N6, R6, or R60, if they"ve been running regularly for the past 30+ years and they"ve had good maintenance and updates, you probably have a reliable machine in front of you. Appears that you"re covered on important spare parts, and the operator was a mechanic. You don"t survive as an independent mech unless you"re really damn good.
