taking head off of a C2 Gleaner

I need to remove the head from my Gleaner. Manual talks about pushing the wedges out and then basically it unlatching. The wedges are spring loaded, can't get them to stay out spring keep pushing them back into the latch.
What's the trick that I'm missing?
Thanks

When the wedge is pushed in, you should be able to push it either upwards or downwards into a narrow notch which will hold it in the retracted position.

What do you use to push them in? A small socket on an extension, use sorta' as a punch? There is enough resistance on them that they only push in when gently hit with a hammer, can't seem to "push" them at all.

What SD Pete talks about- the pipe end of the tool has a "socket" built in to it to engage the spring loaded tip you need to move.

Thanks all for the help. Got it off tonight. Ended up using a 3/8 extension and a pair of vice grips.
