Holy crap! I thought mine was a tight fit. Please tell me the starter is not stuffed under that exhaust manifold. That one looks like a fire waiting to happen.I will have to say though that the alternator would be probably the easiest thing on the combine to get to.Thanks for the great pics but I dont think I will be buying a Dominator with a V-6 Merc!

Are there any removable panels to gain access to the lower part of the engine? I made an access door in the grain tank of my 105 to get at the engine easier. I don't know, why the factory didn't think of that idea. Jim

Ah when you have never tried to change the starter on a 4400 JD with a 292 GM engine! Stand on your head over an engine with the starter on the back bottom with the old 3 bolt GM starter that you have to use a distributer wench to get the bottom bolt out. Now THATS FUN! Some had an axcess panel but it dosent help when its got a full bin of soybeans. BTDT! Bandit

haley, yes the starter is under the exhaust manifold!! they did plan for it though, tilt the cab forward and remove the panel between the cab and motor and bingo, loads of space (if you are a contortionist).

The good news is, i don't think the hot dust has a chance to get down to the starter motor lol

there are removeable panels on both sides of the
motor... front one needs the cab tilted out of the
way (two bolts and two heater hoses) and the rear
one is accessed from the grain tank...

You can get that engine rebuilt for 40,000 or buy a new one for a hundred grand. Friend had a 500 horse mercedes in a crane that the water hose blew on the road in a major city and had to go to an exit. New engine $125000 and another $20000 to get it put in. Took a month to get new engine from Germany
