Case 1665 engine running!

I installed the engine today. It started right up again. I adjusted the timing and it sounds good and it's not smoking. The only issue is I should have replaced the bearing on the drive shaft because it is making some noise. I should be able to get to it from the out side ok.

Thanks to all of you who helped throughout the process. It sure is nice to have it done! I plan on using it summer in wheat, so I will try to post some pics.

Were your exhaust pipes good yet? I have used the old ones for a pattern and had the local exhaust shop bend new pipes. I run a torch tip cleaner through the jets in the carb. to make them a little bigger for a smidgen more power.

The exhaust system was in good shape except for a crack in one of the manifolds I had welded and the tip on the muffler that fell off and I ran over. Someone must have already been through it because you can tell the muffler is not original. One thing that I found interesting was that there was a plug instead of a bolt in one of the manifold holes that attach it to the head. It was like that on both sides. I probably should have removed them and installed studs instead to make the manifolds seal better, but I didn't. Thats a good idea on the carb. I might have to try it sometime.

Thanks,
Dan B

How hard was it coming up with the engine overhaul parts? Was a kit available from some where. I have an 318 out of an oliver 7600 that needs rework. Just looking for some tips.

It wasn't to hard coming up with the parts. I looked up the part numbers on federal mogul's website (see link) and went to the local auto parts store to get what I needed. It helps to find someone in the parts store that knows what they are talking about. Most of the parts are the same as a Dodge truck of the same year model, so you could probably get a kit for it and it might work.
