Gleaner K Grain Head

When I bought my K I got a grain and corn head, I never plan to use the grain head, I grow corn but don"t plan on doing any grain. the grain head is a 13 foot and in good condition, what would be a good asking price for it? Also what would a straw chopper sell for? I"m taking the one on it off since it doesn"t really help much in corn.

Probably a few hundred for each unit. If the grain head drive has a wobble box vs pitman drive, it"d be worth a bit more. Condition of auger is very important. Replacement is about 3 grand, rebuilt about half that, some years ago. Mid 80s a new chopper for an F2 was a grand......

Hey jms, what does a grain head weigh? just wondering how heavy it is as far as picking it up with the loader.

Some examples: 13 foot for L2- about 1300 lbs. 15 foot for L2- about 1800 lbs. This is sales lit I have, assume just a bare cutting header, with reel. Lotsa variables, I might have an actual hdr book in the shop. I"d guess around 1100 for the small K head. Corn heads I have actual weights- 2-6 row.

ok thanks JMS, had a couple questions you or others might could help me out with. I need to replace the Thresher Drive belt on my K, the book says to move the strap on the spring, I see it needs to move up to relieve the tension but how do you move it up?

Also the main clutch shaft sheaves on the left side were running a little crooked, I noticed today that someone had adjusted the clutch shaft drawbolt all the way up on the left side and only part way on the right side, so I'm thinking that's what has thrown everything off, the traction belt was wanting to ride up on the side of one of the pulleys which was wearing it out, I have a new belt to put on it, so am I thinking right to get both sides adjusted right, put the belt on and see how it works then?

I"m a bit unclear re both your questions. Strap on a spring? If I know what you"re referring to, I use a crescent wrench to grab the strap and move it.

Other question- if you"re referring to a shaft going crossways through the machine....,that is called a countershaft, and must be adjusted so it is perpendicular to the machine to make pulleys run true.

ok sorry about that, its the strap that holds pressure on the idler with the thresher drive belt.

The book says if rapid wear of the traction belt occurs that the variable drive sheaves may need to be adjusted, which the sheaves where the traction and main belt go on are not in line, they are running a little off (crooked) which lets the traction belt ride up on the side of the sheaves if that makes sense. Do you make this adjustment via the clutch shaft support plates and the drawbolts on each side??

It looks to me that someone has adjusted the LH drawbolt but not the RH, the left hand is run all the way up and the right is not even half. I'm thinking that's what has got things off.
