On Thursday afternoon I took some pictures of the combines on the upcoming Hornbaker auction that will held March 29th near Tribune,KS...

This is the most early pull type combines that I have ever seen in one location..The amount of stuff on this farm is unreal..They say that 10-15 years ago that there was far more stuff there but that lots had been sold since then..Theres lots more there than what my pictures show..

Hopefully the nice Massey Super 27,Massey 92,IHC 141,the (3) MM Unis,45 JD,the Massey SP pickers, and a few of the big pull type combines such as the Caterpillar and the 36 John Deere with 20 ft head can be saved..The scrappers will get lots of the combines and tractors....They have about 50-60 nice tractors and old Cats to sell in town on Friday..

For those that have never been in western Kansas, this is open country with huge farms...Its often 3-5 miles between farm houses....In order for Mr Hornbaker to have gathered so many old combines the farms had to have been much closer together in years past..Most of the old time collectors in western Kansas have now passed on and their collections have been or are now being sold off..

You know how I feel about Masseys. I sure wish it was closer - i would make sure I came home with that 92. Those threshers look like they would be operational as soon as you belted them up.

Blaine,

Thank you for posting the pictures. The Massey Harris 27 looks like a well preserved machine. Classic western Kansas seen with the tumble weeds everywhere.

I went to a sale at Dighton where they had high school kids remove all of the tumble weeds prior to the sell. The problem was the didn"t remove them far enough. Sale day the wind changed and the bidders where dogging tumble weeds all day long. Nothing like getting run over with tumble weed and twenty mile per hour wind. The younger kids where having a great time playing keep away. Cheap entertainment for a long sale day.

Will you be coming for this sale. I will most like not make it. I hope someone saves most of these machines from the scrappers.

That"s cool i live in southern Ohio you don"t see sales like that around here.I have never been out west would love to go out and drive around and see this. thanks for posting pic.

It's sad that the junk man will be buying a majority of these combines. Sure glad I won't be around to see it happen here on my place. 30 years ago Dean Hornbaker was buying just about everything on the sales that came up. I remember him paying some pretty big money for a Olivier cam lift sod plow at the Stroud sale. I don't know who got it bought from the family. I was in debt on land up to my wazzoo back in the early 80's so Dean out bid me on several items back in those days.

Was down there today wow there is a lot of stuff at the farm. The 2 820's will bring a lot of cash will more then likely will be sold together. Plan on going Fri. and Sat.

Lance,I took pictures of most of the tractors both in town and out at the farm...Theres lots of MM"s and (5) rough 21-32 Twin City tractors at the farm...It will take awhile to get them off the camera and on to my photo album...I"ll put some on this thread in the next day or two...

Since I bought nothing at the Seger sale I wont be coming to this one..Anyone that wants can call Nixons and put an opening bid in on the combines..Or you can bid live on the phone..That Super 27 Massey is far too nice to be junked..I"m sure that it will take $750 or more to save it..

Thanks for posting the pics... know about the auction but not sure if I can make it there ... wife would find out ...lol, hope a lot of folks register and bid online !!!

Blaine, how did the prices seem on the better "not rare" tractors? I'm going to try to get to the Tribune sale on Friday. thanks

Shawn,I didnt get a thing bought at Segers..The same collector from S Dakota out bid me on every item that I wanted..I dont think that I'm coming to the Hornbaker sale..

Just a typical sale where prices were all over the place..The scrappers were paying $200-225 a ton which set the floor..
The cheapest decent tractors were the following..

570 Cockshutt $1300
E-4 Coop $1300
#2 Coop $1300
600 McCormick $1600
Nice GB MM $950
Ford 6000 $1700
