Repair or replace original canvas

I took the factory canvas on Massey Harris 21 combine to the tarp guy. He had previously told me it would not be much of a problem. Well he is back tracking a bit. He really thinks I need to totally disassemble and rebuild the original canvas. I was in hopes of keeping them original and just patching the rodent damage along with repairing the broken wooden bats. I have attached photo's. I would appreciate your comments and suggestions. Thanks

Mom was an upholsterer - I grew up looking at things like that. I'd patch that. The integrity of the canvas is there, so I think building up the areas in need is the way to go. With the machine that she had you would be able to do nearly all of it without taking it apart. It would be hard to handle, but it could stay in one piece.
