Gleaner F3 I have been asking about

Thought I would put up a link to it. I am still considering bidding, or I may pass it by and look for something different. Wondering what those who know about them think of this particular one in terms of condition vs price. Keeping in mind one rear tire is pretty bad and the cylinder on the rear axle drips badly.

I'm inclined to think it's getting to high. I would question its care. Don't know the specifics of availability in your area, but there should be something better for that money. Ive seen ads, "in their working clothes", but.. In the end obviously, itll depend on what you want.

That was the conclusion I was coming to. It just seems like a premium price. Some of the combines I looked at last fall were much cleaner and the money was close or less than this one...keeping in mind he has a 10% buyers premium also.

That price is still way cheap for my area.....A used rear tire and a seal for the steering cylinder wouldnt cost much.....The F- F2-F3 Gleaners are in demand for cutting fescue in my part of the country..

Pictured is my 1983 F3 Gleaner stuck on a neighbors place in 1985..Thats the man that owned the ground that I rented..

Don't seem like a bad price to me, in this area (central NC) that machine would bring 10K easily with both heads if it were in any kind of shape at all. Looks like two new walker cranks in that one pic to me. Thats lots of machine for the money, IF its in good condition. My advice is pay someone who knows Gleaners to go look it over. Money well spent IMO.

Machine needs some TLC, but chains are oiled as is the unloading swivel, that may mean it's had some care. Oil pressure and volts are good in the picture. tires are a concern as is the mice being in the overhead console. Trans pressure light on is normal when stopped, rock door light should be out, unless door was open, fuel filter light is on too. Outside gathering chain on cornhead looks quite loose. Is a hydro. Years ago, gave more than that for a gas C-2, 13' table, and 4 row head, and the head wasn't a flex, nor did the combine have air in the cab.

A hydro with both heads, it can go up some yet.

Will cost a lot more the end of August. ;)

Well...what the heck. Guess I'll keep watching it. I would swear I have seen better for that smount but the one I am thinking of is a little different inside. Think maybe it was an older model F. I really don't have the cash right at the moment, jammed up with work, and there is more snow coming down so I hate the thought of driving that home in this weather. Plus the place is a pigpen, looks like they never take care of anything and junk all over. Not in a happy place over this one!

Can I just make sure I understand one thing..."hydro" is a hydrostatic transmission, right? We aren't talking about a different thing here right? So they had standard gear combines also?

The Hydro was an option but all F3's sold new in my area were Hydros..Very few wanted a standard transmission belt drive machine which was available..

Just to show you how crazy things can sell on a farm sale a year ago a nice low hour late model F2 with RWA and both heads sold for well over $20,000 at a farm sale 15 miles from me..It had been well cared for and 2 guys wanted it..I had guessed it at $10,000..

Guys am I missing something, looks like a 200 series grain platform instead of a 300 also I am not seeing an automatic header height switch on this.

You don't get much of a combine for under $5000 back east . . . . I'm not sure it would make $10,000 here anymore in that condition, but surely $7500.

I want others to jump in on this, my thinking is that the grain head is a 200 series and is not equipped for the automatic header height control (electric over hydraulic) that most f3 were equipped with. I also do not see that this machine has the ahc control installed on it. This was one of the great improvements that made this a great machine. Without seeing the machine up close I can't be sure, but the head does look like a 200 series,

After looking closer, think you're right on 200 series, fore and aft adjustment on the reel is 200, but it has 300 long dividers, anyway they're different than my series 2 M had, it doesn't have series 3 shielding, nor the reel hydraulic resivoir. Combine doesn't have the 3 position late style header control, but I had a early M-2 that had the switch up with your other header functions, wonder if the switch for RWA is actually header control. My M-2 was gear drive and that's where it was, My M-3 was hydro with late style.

Dave, i would verify with the owner that it has the AHC and ask about the platform. to gain the full benefit of the f3 you would want the AHC workable with the platform.
