Nuther JD55 question

I went and looked at another 55 on saturday. It has a cup elevator that is too tall to go in my shed. It is a foot taller than the cab. Does anyone know if a regular clean grain elevator from a 95 will fit. The parts book shows a different number but I think the one from a 95 is a little wider which wouldn't matter. That is my only holdup. Other than the height issue it is a pretty decent machine.

Dunno about JD, but look if it has an extension section that you could unbolt....shorten the chain to fit, etc.

My 45 that had that style elevator would
unbolt at the middle from the side or the
machine , loosen a collar on the bottom
and it would pivit down to the same height
as the grain tank. Hope yours does.

Unfortunatly there is not a section to unbolt on this one. I wish there was. This one is like none I have ever seen. When the buckets get to the top they dump out and slide down a chute into the bin. I am sure I can find something to work.

Is it a square or round back? If its the old RB,
you can unbolt the elevator from the bin and lean
it forward as was already said. Pics are worth a
thousand words if you can get some.

It is a square back. It is 1967 or newer as it has the split door cab. I should have taken some pictures when I was there. It is an hour away so I won't be able to get pictures for awhile. I am thinking that if I buy it I will take the elevator off to put it in the shed until I can find a diffent elevator. I figure $800 for a running machine that needs minimal work and an hour from home isn't too bad.

Better snatch it up for that price. I'd like to see
pics of that elevator. Of all the machines I have
seen and worked on, I have never seen what you are
talking about on that late a machine.

What you are looking at is an option available on the edible
bean machine. It carried the beans up a bucket elevator rather
than the paddle elevator and cross auger which was much
easier on the beans and prevented many splits. Very common
in the white bean growing areas. You might want to check and
see if this machine also has a spike cylinder in it. Most bean
machines had spike cylinders.

It is a spike cylinder. I am in the thumb of Michigan where a lot of dry beans are grown. I have never seen a 55 with that elevator and only ever seen one 95 that had it.
