I stated the my Dad and his brother mated a header to a thrash machine. Will my Dad in 1945 mated a 1924 4WD truck ( actual name) to a 24 ft. 1929 Nickel and Shepard Combine and used it three years. Worked great.

Jimmy, these are wonderful pics like so many others have said here, I will come back and look at them many times.

Enjoy seeing the old "L" and she has done lots of hard work, and paid her dues.

Jimmy,I'm so happy you are part of YT, I always read your posts

Dan

Great pictures, love them. When the day was done them boys were pretty proud of the acres they covered.

When I was a young man I followed the harvest north from out of Texas (1969) I never worked so hard, took more "baths" out of stock tanks, ate better or slept under the Stars more than that summer. I would like to do that one more time....

The combine was mounted so the big wheels were right behind the truck wheels and on hard ground about 5 in. off the ground, when the bin filled or soft ground they would roll so the truck would not get stuck. At corners dad just went past and backed up and that left no corners to do. The header (Electric lift on the header) swong back so he could go down the road when moving to fields. He sold it in 48 when he got his new Massey 21A and the guy that bought it drove it to Texas. Before the NS he run a 1929 Gleaner Baldwin (bought new) and run it until 44 when he made this outfit.

I sure appreciate all the pics!! Those are so neat! Wish more folks would have been taking pictures from back in those days!

Is that the same L in all pics?? Interesting to see they moved it off lugs to rubber and then added a cab, if it is...

I wonder where in TX the truck/combine wound up??

Some of those pics look like the High Plains!

Howard
