Yesterday I attended a farm sale 20 miles west of me..The owner was retiring and moving back to California where he originally came from....He had a 500 acre mostly creek bottom farm with a levee..It looked like a tough place to farm..

On the sale was a JD 9600 combine with 4051 engine hours and 2742 seperator hours...It had a new concave and cylinder bars...The right side drive tire was new...It received a bid of $21,000...

They then went to the JD 930F header and trailer...They received a bid of $2,800...They then put the two together and the bidding stalled out at $25,000...The owner said NO SALE..The combine market is soft and I think that he will have problems in selling it for much more..

The JD 6105D with H260 loader and only 192 hours sold for $53,000...

The 2950 JD with 148 loader and 5299 hours sold for $15.500..

The Belarus 6133 with 2824 hours sold for $5900..

The Massey Ferguson 2745 with 3534 hours sold for $4,100...It had 80% dual 20.8's and a weak hydraulic pump...

The New Holland LS 170 skid loader with 1530 hours sold for $13,000...

The Case-IH 5300 21 hole drill sold for $4,300...It showed very little use and still had 10 bushels of beans in the seed box..

The 1970 Plymouth Valiant with 38,377 miles sold for $3,000..The slant six was stuck and it had a California title..

The 17 ft Krause cutting disk sold for $1850...If I hadnt stopped the guy when he was leaving,he would have side swiped a pickup..

The last picture shows the farm...It had mostly been in milo in 2013 with lots of drown out spots..

I didn't realize those flex heads have devalued that much, I don't think around here the combine would have brought any more.

I always liked those big masseys, but have never seen one in person, just not much for Massey in our area. Seems like cheap horsepower, but I have heard the hydraulic pump repair on most masseys is a three way split.

That Plymouth sure looks straight, my first car was a 76 duster, still have it, but the rust has really took over.

Thanks for the pictures and information.

I like the drill. I had to look the Massey up on tractor data. It looks like a brute. Wasnt many Masseys around here.

Blaine - lots of guys in central MO still use lots of JD combines from that era (9400/9500/9600). That header is too big for most Central MO farms but that looks like a bargain for that much combine if it"s in decent shape compared to lots of other things these days.

That skidder seemed like a good deal given the low hours even if was on the smaller side. Most people want a fortune for those things on CL. Looks like JD planter somewhere in the background on one of the pics. What was it and was it sold?

When I see that a 9600 with a head won"t sell for $25K then I look at this 9400 on CL being asked for $55K I really laugh. Mike
9400 on CL in STL

Mike, here are some of the other prices..

JD 7000 6 row planter $2,100

JD 30 ft field cultivator $2,700

DMI 280 bu gravity wagon $2,400

Massey Ferguson 21 ft chisel $2500 -consigned

450 bu grain cart $3,500-consigned

2000 S-10 Chevy 4 cyl,5 speed.56,000 miles???,rough $3900..The 36 ft Sea Breeze motor home behind it sold for
$11,500

The farms have gotten so big here thats theres very few 9500-9600 JD's still being used as most were worn out..35 ft flex heads are common now..That 9400 would be way over priced in my area..

Without knowing the year of the combine and it's condition it's hard to know if that was a bargain or not. However, the platform, being a full-finger head, WAS cheap unless it was beat up pretty bad. Mike

If that's the no-till coulters in the pile for 7000 planter and the marker ends are not missing, then that $2100 is about half or a third of what I see people ask for them on the other side of MO and in IL. But in in my area in Central, MO, 12 row planters are getting common. Mike

Well, the word is that right after the sale was over an area farmer offered more than $25,000 for the 9600 JD and the combine is now sold..I'm guessing 30-35K..It was in decent shape and the model year was never announced..

The 930F head was in good shape and needed only 2 guards...
