Deere Heads, learning what the #'s mean

I'm researching heads for a 7700 combine. I need to find one (I'm in South Central MT) before harvest if I'm going to use my new combine this year.
Have been looking on tractorhouse.com at 216,218,220 heads. What is the difference between a 220 and a 220F?

I plan to use it on feed barley and wheat. Irrigated ground at the moment, but hope to find more ground, probably dryland in the future.

Suspect it is a 220 rigid vs. a 220 flexible cutter bar. I don"t think they had a full finger cross auger in the 200 series heads.

I agree, unless I was out 30' or wider a flex would just be more parts to break down.
I'm not sure I want anything wider than 20' either. Probably don't want narrower than a 16' and am really looking at sticking with the 20' width.
Can't seem to find anything closer than NE or IA though.

All the large auger heads are 200 series. If the decal shows 220F then it is a late 200 series with a floating cutter bar. This would be a better soybean ehad. For wheat and barley you want a rigid head. The later model would be a 220R head.

The small auger heads where quick tach heads. They did not have a model number.

The newer heads went to the 900 series and then on to the 600 series.

The first 7700 series combines used 100 series heads. The 100 series used a bell crank to run the sickle where the 200 series used a wobble box. Both were quick tach and would work on your 7700. You might be able to find one closer to MT....don't know....

Check bismanonline seems like there are a few combines and heads listed that would work for you. You would want a 200 or 900 series head 20-24 ft.
