John deere 7720 vs 7720 Titan 2

Can someone enlighten me on major differences looking at a 79 7720 and an 88 7720 Titan 2 we farm small acreage with a 78 6600 and a 4 row wanting to pickup some ground and go to 6 row I"m told I can run the 4 row head on either with right tires for now just heard he titans would shake themselves apart and price diff is 6000$ bothy have same hours 3100.
 
JD sped the shoe up on the Titan IIs. All you need to do is change the sprocket back to the slow one used on the Titans. Either that change the bushings every other year.
 
IT is BS that a Titan II will shake itself a part. You just need to replace the shoe/chaffer frame rubber bushings. Guys never check them out and then start to break the chaffer or sieve and then blame the machine.

They speed the shoe and chaffers up. They also have the dual range cylinder that the early one does not have. The elevator adjustments are improved on the T2 machines.

If you can pickup a Titan II for $6K more than a 1979 then do it. There are a boat load of improvements to the Titan IIs.

Also down the road that 1979 model 7720 will sell for scrap price verses the Titan II. You can buy JD early models for less than 10K all day long.

I would find it hard to believe the hours on a 1979 machine at being only 3100 too.
 
J D Seller I asked the same question about my 6620 Titan 2 and you gave me some great info, I changed most of the bushings on mine and put on several new parts including the fan shield that was damaged by the loose bushings. Now I have a great combine that did a great job on my corn.

The big difference between the 7700 and the 7720 would be the unloading auger. Most 7700s that I have seen had the manual swing out on the unloading auger and that can be a pain in the...
but the 7720 have the hydraulic swing on that auger and are easy to use.
