JD 4400 Combine 4 Row Head Drops

This problem just started today. The head will drop to the ground when high RPM is used. Lower the RPM and the head can be adjusted, but this doesn't work when trying to harvest corn. It will stay in place until the head lever is moved, but needs to be adjusted for different height of corn and ground level. We checked the hydraulic fluid and added some, but the problem still exists. Any ideas? We're trying to finish corn before the next big snow storm. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a belt slipping, the one that runs the head and maybe the power steering. It has been a while since I ran 4400 but I believe there are two pumps. One is driven by a belt in the engine compartment and the other under the platform near the steps.
Also check that you have hooked the hydraulic hoses together that are used to drive the reel on a grain head.
My bet would be a loose belt.
