Case 1665 engine question

I'm getting ready to to the Chrysler 318 engine back together and I noticed a slight difference in the aftermarket rear main bearing from the original. The original bearing has a second grove on it (see picture ). The aftermarket bearing has no second grove and appears to end there. None of the pictures I have seen online show a second grove so I'm wondering if it is necessary or even available?

Also, I'm trying to decide if I should replace the oil pump or not. Did these have a standard flow or high volume oil pump?

Thanks again for all of your help,
Dan B

Dan the industrial should have a high volume pump, as for the bearing do you have a CASE parts book and do the numbers match or sub up to the same number? I do have books if you need me to post it for you and I used to have a good # for Chrysler Industrial as well the brg being shorter bothers me sorry not a lot of help, that brg looks good due they show much wear?

I have a place that claims they can get most old parts for these engines as well as bearing sets I do not know how to post it here but would be glad to e-mail it to you send me a message at
[email protected] if you would like it

The bearings all looked good, but I would hate not to replace them. I have a parts manual for it, but I doubt any of the part numbers are still good. It does show the second grove in the picture though. I will email you to get the information for the parts.

Thanks again, Dan B

I would verify what oil pump the engine calls for, high volume pumps are usually used in race applications in engines with loose bearing clearance, a high volume pump and close bearing clearances is not a good combination

make sure you check the big ends of the rods, that is something that should be done anytime an engine is worked on
