Case 1665 Engine Pulled

Well, I decided to start a winter project and I pulled the engine on my Case 1665 to overhaul it. If the rebuild goes as easy as pulling the engine, it will great. I some how don"t think the engine will be as easy to mount as it came off.

I have done that on a 700 and a 960 to me they went back in a bit easier than coming out good luck on the rebuild, you going to have it boarded as well? or how bad is it do you think? post us some of the process if you don't mind thanks

Tom and I were just talking when he was out about the clean grain elevator on later combines entering the hopper higher up and see that you have one. Most I have seen have factory extensions but yours seem to be home made. Did you extend the grain elevator or buy it that way?? Also talked about a 336 turbo Case engine to install for more power.

I'm hoping I don't have to have it bored. But we'll see once I have it apart. I will try to post pics as I go.

Thanks,
Dan B

This has a homemade extension on the clean grain elevator. It was that way when I got it. The person who did it did a nice job with it. He also did a couple of 1660s the same way. I've seen a later model 1665 Rice Special with the factory clean grain auger coming in above thetop of the tank like you are talking about, but it didn't have a bin extension.
It would be neat to have a 336 in a combine.

When I 1st saw the title of the post, I assumed the "1665" meant the P-O-S IH rotary, but I got a surprise. At the time, the 1665 was the greatest combine to ever leave a factory. Ran ours for 20 years. Had a 14' Grain & the famous 306 6 row corn head.

Did some of the 1660 and 1665 Case combines come with a 354 perkins diesel installed? It might be way too much trouble but if it is possible to install a 354 Perkins in it seems to me it would be a nice upgrade. I would look for a 354.4 out of a late model 750 or 850 Massey as they are plentiful.
