german cutter bar

Hi guys,
I have had my eye on a older JD combine and have only talked to the guy over the phone. The guy told me it had a german cutter bar on the bean head. It was a 213 head. Can you tell me something about it? Where do you get parts for it and what are the positive and negatives about it. He said he really likes it. I just wish I had the money to buy the combine. It would be a big step up from my pull type combine I have been using the last couple years.

I have an SCH. I don't know if there are other German ones. This has hard steel guards which are tight to the knife section top and bottom. Every other knife is upside down. The theory being since it cuts equally bottom or top, with every other knife turned over, the knife bar "floats", avoiding the wear of a typical system. No hold down clips. A roller kit which goes behind the bar is an option.
It works fine. Neighbor who does a lot of beans likes his.

Like Bob said, probably an SCH, i don't know of any other "German" cutter bar. They are good, we put one on our haybine (heston) a couple of years ago, now i only change a few knife sections/guards per year, vs a few a day before. Will change both grain heads to them when knives/guards need changed. Expensive but very good.

I dealt with Crary in Fargo for a new bar. Their guards came from Germany.....they were brittle, bad batch Crary said. They replaced broken ones, then took all back after the season. All I was out was the aggravation.
