Those of you that read my posts know that my father runs one of my old Fords during harvest season for me and has always been like my right hand doing whatever it took to get the job done.Every since we finished corn back in September he has gotten very short of breath several times and cant hold out to do anything.Wednesday morning he called me from a couple miles from home saying I needed to come get him because he couldnt breathe. When I got to him he was slumped over the steering wheel of his truck and in VERY bad shape.I rushed him to the hospital and luckily they got him stabilized. He spent wednesday and thursday in ICU and has now been moved to a heart center in a bigger city close to us.He is 63 and has always smoked so we thought his lungs were probably gone but the respitory doctor said his lungs look great for someone that has smoked as long as he has.The heart is where the problem is.The doc said he only has 20% working and they are going to do a heart cath on Monday to try to find out why.I have been preparing myself for the day he couldnt run "his" combine for several years now buy it really hit me hard yesterday.I still like around 300 acres of sorgum for a few people and after I came home from the hospital I decided to go run for a while to get as much done before Monday as I could.I went to the field where he was cutting to get on the combine he runs for me and finish where he started but from the moment I pulled in the field it didnt seem right without him there.I fired up "his" combine and started into the first rows but had to stop for a second to gather myself up when I realized that for the first time in a LONG time he was not there with me while I was cutting. He is in great hands and is also in good spirits and I hope and pray they will get him back going soon because my custom harvesting will never be the same without him.
