F2 and 324 vs the bear

Working the last field today. Wife was filling some wagons with cob corn for feeding. Said she hit a big mound and then a hole. picker came down so hard it knocked a gathering chain off and ate it.She said it was a bear den. My thought was ya sure it was. Out in the middle of a nearly flat field. Drove out to it with the pickup. Mound of dirt about 2' high and a big hole. Leaned over to look in the hole . What I saw was pair of bear eyes and bear nose peaking at me. he pulled back and so did I. Didn't really want to get well acquainted at that point. went back with the combine later and got the partial rows she had missed. Drove over the edge of his pile of dirt . I do know that if he stays there for the winter, he's going to be one wet bear before spring. I had seen where he had tried to dig in clay areas of the field and hadn't had very good luck. this isn't uncommon to find a bear den in a cornfield. A couple of years ago south of us a guy drove over a den with a bigger combine and killed the poor bear. DNR was close to having a hissy fit over that. And so it goes.

Yikes!!!!! They are close, but not right here. Hope it stays that way. If I ever find one in a hole in a corn field, I doubt it will dig any more holes.
