Anybody got a set for a JD 95?Are they really that much better? What makes them special? The bars on my machine are getting down....But they will probably work for a long time yet.

I pulled a set from my old 95 and put them in the one I run now. Ausherman bars have 1/2 as many vains in them and are made heaver than OEM JD bars. They are more aggressive so you can run the cylinder slower and open the concave a little more than normal. If you put a new set in you will think you have a new combine. They make a big difference in the way it runs, They will pull more through than the OEM JD bars. If I had a choice to buy I would buy the Ausherman bars every time. With Poly-tin mfg as close as they are to you shipping wont be to bad (I could be wrong).

One thing you will need to know is the serial# if you get a set. At 52000 they went from 7 hole to 9 hole and the bars are different according to my parts book. I think you will really like them if you get a set. Bandit

My opinion of the Ausherman bars may be different than some here. From what I have witnessed they are more aggressive than a conventional bar but it comes with a price. While it's true they will grab more material they can be very hard on grain quality, especially in very dry conditions. Opening up the concave to allow for the more aggressive stance of the bars is only a band-aid which could, by itself, cause even more cracking. Any time the concave is opened up wider than the crop mat is thick makes the bars start to "paw" at the mat causing more cracking than would otherwise be experienced. A good set of regular bars will do everything you want and maintain your grain quality as well. Like many aftermarket parts I believe these mask other symptoms. Also, comparing any new bar to a worn one is an apples to oranges comparison. These bars were a hot item in this area after one particularly tough fall. The next fall the grain was very dry and people couldn't get them out of their combines fast enough. Mike

Steve, I have a set for a old tall 95, and a concave that was rebuilt not too long before the machine was retired. Big problem is that they are still in the combine. If you are out here visiting family, and can pull them out yourself, I wouldn't be hard to deal with.

What are you planning to harvest with this machine? Like the others said, they are more aggressive and will crack more large grains like corn or soybeans. I put them in my 105 and like the others said, it was a new machine. Wet slugs of beans would pull right through. Come to think of it, I don't think I slugged the combine in beans after I put in the Ausherman's. I don't know how they are in wheat but I'd think tough wheat would work better. Jim
