I'm having a problem witha white 704N breaking off the whole corn stalk. Is it a flute problem on the rolls. they all look even across on edges. Any ideals

Either build up the flutes or buy new ones.

They are not close enough together to keep hold of the stalk to pull it on through.

I have a newer IH head and whenever I have that problem I put new knifes on the stalk rolls and the problem disappears.

Mine are replaceable knifes. On yours you will most likely need to build them up with a welder.

I done JD stalk rolls in the weld shop before with hard surface wire. An 1/8 inch on each flute makes a big difference.

Is it breaking the corn off below the ear? Taking the ear and top of the plant through the machine? If corn is real dry it may be unavoidable. You can open the deck plates, that will help, but open them too far and you will start to shell and loose corn. Whites have pretty aggressive stalk rolls, and the "blades" are replaceable.

yes the corn is doing what have said. going to try replacing with what have and maybe the welding part. The sad thing is shoup used have them at $20 Agco is 60 and A&I at 40. No longer available at shoups.
