Going rate for corn picking......

Hello there,

This older fellow I know is looking to have a picker harvest 15-20 acres of corn.

Machine that would be used is a JD 300, 2RW picker.

What is fair? A diesel tractor, with a cab, with heat (thank God), will provide the power. Guy has 3 gravity boxes, and corn cribs.

If a combine is $35/acre, is a picker less? I want to say that I remember guys around here charging $18-20/acre, about 20 years ago, to pick corn.

I appreciate any opinions. Rather curious if many guys still do any picking.

Thanks!

I would say charge the same as combineing. It will take considerable more time and effort/hassle than just useing a 4/6/8 row combine....Then you have to worry about changeing wagons....

I charged the same as combine and I had to furnish everything=wagons-tractor-manpower-elevator.Picking 4w-4N and6N.MUD made the losing part of it.

According to the 2013 Iowa Farm Custom Rate Survey the Average price is $27.65 an acre, the low was $25 to a high of $30 dollars so you can go to that site and it will give you everything you would want to know about custom farm work.
