6600 Straw walker horn

Several years ago I bought a 6600 Deere and it has worked very well, but 3 times over the time I have owned it I have plugged canola over the chopper and the slip clutch on the walkers hasn"t let go until the end section on the walkers has bent. According to the manual, there is supposed to be a straw walker plug warning horn and there are wires ending above the walkers, but there is no sign of a switch.

Is the walker bending problem common on this machine? Could someone take a photo or describe where the sensor switch is supposed to be located.

Thanks guys.

I can't speak for the walkers bending, but we have had a 4400 and a 4420, and the switch should be mounted on the inside above the walkers, and should be most of the way back, nearly above the end of the walkers on the discharge end. Ours had a flat rectangular plate with a hinged end. A microswitch was mounted to that. One time ours quit working because of a bad horn module (located under the left of the cab platform, above the left drive wheel). We switched the wires on the horns to make the walker horn work, even though that left us without the truck signal horn in operation. Good Luck!

here is the diagram from deere. they should be the same on all the 00 combines. On my 3300 when i open the hatch i can reach in and grab leaver (parts key 10).

My experience has been that, although they seem a good idea, they seldom work when needed. They will fill with chaff and straw and bind the micro-switch so that it cannot move. You must clean them regularly and it is surprising how fast the switches can fill up again. This was in wheat and barley, maybe coarser stem crops would not fill as fast. The only real solution is to go with a rotary machine. They can still plug with straw but there is nothing to bend.
