F315 head on F

Is there Any hidden secrets to getting a flex header to go on a F? My floating cutter bar head has seen better days. Want to get a flex head so when I upgrade to a F3 I have my head. Any help would be appreciated.

Will the robot control work? I am noticing a tank mounted on the head, is there a way to make electric over hyd controls? I guess my next question is what is the tank on the head for?

I have seen guys add the components to f2's to make this work. Not sure the f would have the same valve set up.

The tank on the head is a self-contained hyd system, for the hyd reel drive. It has a variable speed valve to control reel speed, but needs elec control from combine, which your F does not have. Your F robot system will now control the elec header height equipment on the M315 flex head. You need elec/hyd controls like the 2/3 system.

No, F hyd is mechanical control linkage to valve bank. F2 is elec/hyd system controlled by switches in cab.

I just bought an F2 with a 313 flex head. previous owner had used it many years without any auto header height controller. He said it worked well running the height manually. I put it on my F3 which doesn't have the control module. I only had 9 acres of late beans left and combined them in overcast damp conditions. It was my first use of a flex head and I thought it worked really well controlling it manually considering the conditions and my inexperience. Better grab that 315.

Didn't read close enough. Thought you were looking at a 315. that was mentioned in another reply. But my experience is that the 300 series head for the F's are hard to find .

I've ran a couple different flex heads with manual controls until the electronics got repaired they weren't hard at all compared to a ridged head cutting soybeans if your ground isn't too rough, gleaner is easy to set just watch the cutter bar at either end lowering it not quite mid ways it's travel and it will basically run itself

Running the reel is going to be the issue, need a power source with an on off switch, the F is to built for it so will need to rig something. And varriable speed of it. Really haven't though through what all that will take.

The sickle and auger will chain up the same. The reel is going to be the issue.

Height control. As you say, a person can do it manually with not too much issue.

We had 2 "F"s (w/292 GM gasoline engines, iirc) w/13' fcb headers way back when; swapped the headers for 16' flex headers. Can't remember (it was 35-plus years ago) what changes we had to make to get everything to work, but I don't recall it being a big deal at the time. We ALMOST had too much header for the combines and had to swap a couple of gears........on the outside of the transmission, I think........to slow the groundspeed down. It allowed us to combine in 2nd gear, but made them slow on the road. I suppose it's possible that the headers we bought were earlier models than what you're looking at. We loved the new headers........

Can the controls for the head beside header height be controlled by 3 position switches mounted in the cab? What is on the 315 electric pumps? My question is how is the tank pressurized on the head?

tank you are referring to is the reservoir for the pump that drives the reel ,it's driven of the header shaft, the output to the reel is controlled by an electric controlled valve that can be operated by a toggle switch
