Gleaner head loss.

I run a old gleaner m2, the corn i;m binding is about 20% moisture. I have the stripper plates set to the factory settings, and still lose alot of corn off the head. The cobs are pretty small. Any ideals why. Or is this how these combines are?

If the ears are small you are probably shelling them with the snap rolls. Factory setting on snap plates are probably for average stalk and ear size. Need to tighten snap plates down and remember to leave wider spacing at upper end of snap plates. If you have variable speed for your corn head, set it for your ground speed so that ears are snapping off in at least the last 1/3 of opening. This should help.

Stripper plates need to be set closer for small stalks/ears. Factory setting is just a suggested starting position- adjust for actual field conditions. Also check that rolls are centered over the row- measure as close as possible...each side can be adjusted at each row.

Speed of CH? Ground speed? Run the head just fast enough to move the ears quickly, according to ground speed. Overspeeding leaves too much time for chewing off kernels.
