JD 4400 variable reel speed control valve

Just finished cutting soybeans but noticed trying to change reel speed appeared not to operating properly. I can slow it down but when I try to speed it just a little it seems to turn at fast speed. Does this mean the control valve in the cab is malfunctiong and needs to be rebuilt? Or there something else I need to check? Thanks for your assistance.

Before you start taking panels apart or looking under the seat it could be as simple as taking the hex screws out of the knob and checking that the knob/screws are actually tight and working on the valve.
