corn moisture test

Ran my JD 6620 combine for a test on some corn and took a sample of the corn to the elevator for a moisture test. It was high, 28% but it was from an area that had some downed corn. Would the downed corn test higher than the standing corn or does it all test the same?

By the way, the combine seems to work OK.
Thanks

Depends-

My down corn was dryer than the standing corn. Because it died early from lack of moisture on the lighter soils. Stalks had died and dried out then we got a wind and knocked down the dead stuff. The greener stuff that was healthy was still standing and about 6 points wetter than the down stuff.

Now if all your corn was still healthy and just part of it blew down then maybe yes the standing corn may be dryer cause the stalk was still feeding it to maturity. Plus the standing corn would get more air flow to dry it.

So it all depends on the health of the corn before and after the wind.

Thanks Gary, That makes sense.
My downed corn was knocked down by a cow and not by wind or diease. I have some areas in the corn field that has some downed corn due to high wind and I was concerned if I had to combine that seperately.
