Photo's of working on my Claas Dominator 96

I have spend about twenty hours revitalizing the paint. I will most likely have another twenty hours to finish the buffing the old blue paint. I will be sanding and painting the top of the grains bin where the Claas logo is. I have removed the engine compartment shields to modify the hydraulic tank fills and clear more room to repair all of the hydraulic leaks. Hydraulic control lever, steering valve and unloading valve stack is leaking and in need or repairs. I hope to have in field ready condition and looking sharp by Wheat harvest.

Try again

Looking good! you want to give me some tips on how you brought the blue back to a shine? the green on my 76 is in about the same shape your blue was in and I would like to do it like you have done this one.Where do you ger your Claas parts from?Claas has changed the way they fill your order this year. The way they do it now is kinda like selling in bulk,If you order three of something and it is originally packaged 25 to a pack you buy the 25 now.Always in the past you could buy just the quantity you wanted.Whats that tucked in there behind the 96 a new model Massey?

looks good. As regards your hydraulic tanks, i keep thinking about modifying mie, and using one large tank for both the hydrostat and hydraulics rather than the two small tanks... not done it yet, but i keep thinking about it. (claas 106)

I bought a Dewalt 7" buffer. It has adjusting speeds from 600 to 1800 rpm. I have three different pads. Cutting, buffing, and polishing pads. I start cleaning each area to be buffed with Carb. Cleaner. I spray on and wait about 10 seconds and wipe clean. Then I am using a 3M product Rubbing compound. Apply the compound in counter clockwise fashion and then buff at 800 rpms with cutting pad. I will do this horizontal first time. Repeat vertical movements using 1400 RPM Then hit with buffing pad on time using polishing compound and then once with the finishing compond and polishing pad. Remove any compond or debri from the pads on the treated area. Waxing to seal the paint.

The buffer was about four hundred bucks. Four hundred in componds and pads. Hours of hard work to return this paint. The shields had a clear coat to capture most of the neglect. The cab side has been the most difficult as it set exposed in a hay shed. The white paint appears to be one coat and can be wiped off cleaning it. I will prepare the metal and repaint.

I have not had to order parts yet. I will try thru my local MF dealer. There is dealer in Auburn, Kansas that sold a few of the MF version. The other combine is 1998 MF 8780 combine. If you search Masseypride you will find some harvest pictures along with my older Massey collection.

Oj,

On top of modifing the fill I'm going to add a sight glass to see just how much oil is in the hydraulic tanks. I will post a few pictures along the way.
