Tribine combine

Was looking at my new Progressive Farmer mag this morning and they were talking about the new prototype Tribine. It's front half is from a Gleaner s77 and crustbuster makes the rear 1/2. Here is a short video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6yYKmKtCUw

I dont even want to think about how bad it would be if you got that one stuck with 1000 bu in the cart! I dont think it will ever catch on but you never know.

It is an interesting design. It is also AWD, not sure how much it will help in soft ground. Im hoping they get it out and run it more this fall, they got it finished at the tail end of the harvest last fall.

I didn't think it will catch on. Main reason is a grain cart will still be needed to keep the machine running. Most people that can afford a new combine want to keep it running as much as possible not stopping every couple acres and heading for the truck and dumping.

Looks awfully short in the threshing and cleaning areas, especially the cleaning. How good does it clean??

Maybe good on flat ground, but not in hills. Full grain tank on side hills? Wow the grain tank will be the "boss"!

If it"s full length S-77 shoe it will have excellent cleaning, and it will shine in hillsides.

i saw the combine at the AG-CONNECT show in kansas city. quite the machine, and as far as mud , the guy who farms next to me has a 1600 bu BALZER cart. all of the equipment is getting so big and heavy, just doesn"t seem to matter much .and to think my dad was worried about compaction when we bought a Ford 5000 over a 861 . my how things have changed

I'm with you on needing an auger wagon. I also wonder how good a job spreading the trash will be with the tank hooked behind. Seems to me there will be a bit of a bare spot in the center. It also looks cumbersome but maybe the crab steering helps that.

A lot of work for a zero market!!! The main job of a modern combine is to keep it in the row/field. That is what a grain cart does for you. Having to stop harvesting to dump the cart is a loss of productivity. We run the carts to the combines and always unload on the go if possible.

I would bet the final cost would be more than a combine, tractor and large grain cart.

Like I said neat, different idea with very limited market.

I thought it was a really novel idea with a lot of merit.

Less wheel tracking becasuse you are not out there with a cart.

Reduces the need for labor... no cart operator. Trading capital for reduced labor is not a new idea in agriculture.

Could still use a cart, and dump less frequently... could cut compaction in long fields.

Lower center of gravity with the grain down low- less top-heavy on hillsides.

As for the loss of productivity because of having to stop... threshing machines could run with near 100% threshing time. No turning around or dumping. We don't use them any more do we????

Another plus- it was invented by a farmer, not a machinery company. Some of the best advancements in ag came out of farm shops, not corperate headquarters.

Looks like an improved version of a new idea uni system
combine with the bin stretcher auger option pulling a wagon,
not a "new" idea. Impressive piece of engineering and
fabrication yes but i agree with the other comments about
weight and taking productivity away from the combine.

We do use threshing machines today!!! They just have wheels and pick the crop directly rather than a bunch of manual labor bring the crop to the threshing machine.

A combine that size with a 12 row corn head can shell a 1000 bushels in about 12-15 minutes in 200 BPA corn. So every 12-15 minutes the combined machine would have to go dump. Lets say that could be done in 5 minutes. In that length of time a combine without the cart attached would have shelled another 300-500 bushel.

There might be a market in the small grain harvesting areas but in the main corn producing area I do not see it be accepted very much.

With the Gleaner transverse design the threshing and seperating can be compacted, I would like to see where everything is though.
