Throttle 03-13-2013 10:35:23 199.30.97.3 Report to Moderator	Hey Guys, just bought a 1480 with 18.4x38 duals, my question is has anyone tried running a six row head with this setup? Looks like it will be tight. This is on 30" rows. Also do you think a six row will be enough to keep combine full with corn averaging 200-225 bu acre? Thought about going to 8 row maybe. As long as your tires are centered between rows, it should work if your corn is standing and you do a good job of planting. If your corn is leaning or broke down from a wind, it will be leaning in one direction, so you will have to combine it from one side. By that I mean combine a pass, turn right around and take the next 6 rows back, so you don't pull down stalks on the next standing row. I need duals, simply for the weight. Our neighbor got a 1680 same size duals and row width and his six row wasn't wide enough to keep from running it over [Reply]  [No Email]

Find the center of the combine....measure 15 inches to the side. Mark that spot....Inside row. Go 30 inches, chalk mark, likely on the tire....second row. 30 inches beyond that is the outside row,...chalk that. Dual should center 15 inches beyond that. I made straddle duals for my Gleaner M2.....inside tires, dished out, duals with correct spacers, run between outside rows on a 630 head. I don't run over any rows, stalk chopper picks up everything perfectly. 1480 isn't all that big- 200+ bpa should keep it busy- just adjust ground speed for good uniform through-pit. It is not advised to try it. If you want to run a 6 row head then you need to trade your duals for singles. [Reply]  [No Email]

You'll run a faster ground speed than with an 8 row. A lot of guys around here used to run the big machines with 6 rows to go faster. I'm not sure about the duals, they seem like a waste on a 6 row head. I'd take the duals off and put them in storage for replacements or if you go to an 8 row head. [Reply]  [No Email]
