Those poor ol C70's probably couldn't do any more than 45-50 MPH on the flat on a calm day pulling those combines. The wind resistance is terrible. Jim

A tandem axle that size would be nice I am looking for one. One thing I learned already is that too small of a truck along with the elevator being nearly an hour round trip can slow down the cutting quite a bit. Be nice to haul in a good 500 bushels at a time.

cousin had one, had the 366 overhauled and hopped up a little, took off the noise abatement mufflers and dumped glass pacs under the cab, she would run 75 MHP empty :)

The guy that used to custom combine for me had a mid 70's Chev similar to that. It featured a 427 in front of a 13 speed. Every load we hauled was to the top of the boards and she would walk along pretty nice. Yes it was on air brakes. He also had a mate to this truck with juice brakes that I wouldn't drive loaded or empty.

I have wondered how well the fluid breaks worked on them. My single axle has to get break work before it goes on the road again. Even a nice single axle with 16ft bed would be nice so I could fill both trucks and also have an extra. Also it is not a very good experience when the hoist fails at the eleveator with a line waiting behind..... Yes I have had the pleasure. The 53 Chevy is no longer in my little fleet.
