Claas Dominator 96

I know its not a Massey. But a nice one owner machine with 1640 engine hours. I drove it home and fired up the separator and header. The header is 17' wide. I have a newer MF 9700 25' that might go on it If I can find a adapter and way to drive the reel. Bunch of extra belts, filters, and manuals. My family demoed an MF 8460 in 1989. It was quite the machine but we did not purchase the machine. I have not really decided what to do with the combine whether to resale or keep and rebadge as a massey 8450. Well, tell me what you think.

Interesting what turns up. I guess I never realized that MF rebadged Claas combines. A neighbor runs an 8460 and now that I know I can see that is a Dominator. Although the tin work is a little different as I think the Massey has a little bigger cab. I know your died in the wool MF, but I think it would be a neat conversation piece if left as a Dominator. A guy doesn't see an 8460 everyday, but he sure doesn't see a Claas in Kansas either.

Good looking combine for its age! Where are you located? The engine looks identical to the Mercedes thats in the 76 that I just bought.That combine should have great capacity but in my opinion the head is the factor that severly limits it.When Class built that series head they put the knife way too close to the auger and in good thick wheat it wont feed worth a darn.On the later heads they moved the distance between the knife and auger way out and the wheat doesnt stack up in the middle like it does on the older ones.Just looking at your header it looks like it is offset to the right of the combine like the 19' head I have.The first time I noticed mine being offset I thought my eyes were giong crazy but sure enough it was offset about three foot to the right.Is this one hydrostatic drive or variable speed? It also looks like someone has widened the wheels to put bigger tires on them,I have never seen the gussets in a factory wheel.Do a search for Abilene machine in Kansas for 9650 Massey Ferguson head and look at the 20' head they have there for sale.It is a bit pricey but it will go straight on the 96 without a lot of hassle.It is the same head used on the 8450-8460 Ferguson.Looks like a great find and hope it works out good.

I'm located in North Central Kansas. The motor is a Mercedes OM 352 A rated at 150 hp. The machine is a hydro tranny. The tires are 28.1-26 and the rimes were modified. I have looked at the header at Abilene Machine. I would not be willing to pay that much for that header. I have looked around and would probabaly do something like these two links. That way I could have spare running combines along with with heads for less money than the Abilene Machine Head. The links:

if you want to make a header fit these Claas combines it's not hard and you really don't need an adaptor... i've put a MF 1859 flex on my 106... JD headers might fit more easily, but they both require a little work (new brackets and header/reel drive). If you can d=find an older MF header, they had a self contained hdraulkic system for the reel... that what i used on mine. The other thing that need done is to slow the wobble box drive down about 25%...

I have seen them on there also.Not a bad price for either the 96 or 106 but unless I am giong crazy I think the 106 is actually a 108.It has the new style cab top and glass.Maybe they made some 106's like this?

I think it"s a 108 too Haley... cab is a 108 and so is the tin work over the engine (extra cooling vents).
