Combining in SD in the 2000s

Paul died in 2007; his son-in-law now farms our home place. Here he's combining beans with his IH 2388.

I really enjoyed the photo history of your families harvesting. What a difference from the 140 to the 2388, it makes a guy wonder just how much room their is for innovation in harvesting.

i grew up in a 6600, then after i got out of the Beloved Corps, i ran a wheat harvest crew for a couple years, went from a 6600 to a 9600, then when we did dry beans in eastern colorado, we used 95's & 105's with pickup attachments. My brother has since upgraded combines, but im one of the few guys who have ran every series combines Deere has made. Interesting comment on where technology and innovation will carry us into the future. It seems to be a matter of physics and what seem to be limits in the natural world, that being said, i would expect a lot more in the self adjusting combines, more sensors, more computing power and further gps incorporated. Deere in the late 90's, was trying to incorporate planters, drills, fertilizer, and combines into an all inclusive unit that would evaluate bpa while harvesting and transform that into next years seed/fertilizer rates making the adjustments based off of last years harvest data. add that to the kind of apps that are coming in smart phones and i would expect, Erik, that by the time you and i are the old timers on here, young guys will wonder how we got anything done haha as a side note, i am 37 in ne kansas, actually, not all that far from you.
