Here in central NY it seemed hot and dry, but not like last year, when rain turned off JUN 26- JUL 26, and it was hot! Corn 160-165 bu. But came out of the field earlier and dryer than ever. (We had a record early spring). Oats were very good, again, as you might imagine with a record early spring. Wheat was so-so. After our record early, dry start, we got 2.25" water Apr 21-23, almost half of it coming as heavy wet snow. That came on growing wheat, and always stunts it. 1/4 of the corn was planted. I could have planted more, but didn't dare. And it was a good thing. We couldn't get on the ground for three weeks. When I finished planting corn, I went backed and planted in some drowned spots. The ground smelled! But the corn grew! |
