My combines

The cows are fed and it's slippery out there, here's a little entertainment, a photo history of my combines.

1. 1964 A2 that I bought from the original owner, very low hour nice combine. I had to sell it for lack of shed space.

2. 1978 540 MF, came out of Batesville, Indiana with a 43 cornhead and 13' 1859 platform. Went to Bolivar, Mo when I sold it.

3. 1982 550 MF with 63C cornhead, still shedded and awaiting a new home.

4. 1987 1660 CIH

Combines my dad and I have had. And I have run them all.

IH 76 pull type, IH 303, '73 IH 815, 81 IH 1440, 84 IH 1440, 92 CaseIH 1660, and a 2002 Case IH 2366 my current combine.

Dad owned the first 4, I had the last 4.

Dad had a JD 12A, which I never ran. When he sold the cows and went big!!!!! he found a nice looking AC Super 100 at auction. I never ran that as it was a monster. Good thing the JD 12A was still around! The AC got traded for one of the last new Gleaner E's. What a difference.
I'll never figure out why they built both the A and E. They were so similar in size.
I've got a late 1660(Cummins). After three seasons I guess I'm getting used to it. After 40 years of conventional Gleaner I'm not sure I'll ever fully make the change!.

World of difference between that gleaner and your 1660. Kinda wish I had some pics of some of our past combines.First combine I ever ran was my greatgrandpa and cousins 7720. My first one was a 1440 and then a 2188 and the last red one we had was a 2388 before we started runnin green. I often sit in that 9870 with a 12 row head and 40 foot mcdon and think about what my great grandpa would say to see such a big machine and to be able to pick that much in one pass.

Mom's Dad, my Grandpa started out with an MM 69PT, then had an MM 88PT, then an MM3490. Traded it for a C2 Gleaner, F Gleaner, M Gleaner, M2 Gleaner, M3 Gleaner and finally an R52 Gleaner.

Dad's Dad, my Grandpa, had an A Gleaner, A2 Gleaner, Case660, G Gleaner, and an M Gleaner.

I'd like to find an A2 or a C2.

In the 1960s I had a JD30 as my first machine. Next was a Gleaner E3, great machine that got used about 25 years on a couple hundred acres a year. The last one an K2 that only goes over about 80 acres of corn a year. It will be my last one. Joe

first was a case 600 wish still had then move to uni 710 with 702 power unit then uni717 with 705 power unit and now NH TR-75

Going all the way back great grandpa on one side had a JD 12a I think the other great grandpa had a MH clipper once my grandpa got out of the army they had upgraded to a MH super 26 then a 27 i think, then they had a MF 300 and then 2 different 410's. After dad got married they got a 750 Red cab with a 3 digit serial number but I don't remember what it was now. When I was 5 they traded for the silver cab 750 then in 86' during wheat harvest we got the 1460 Axial flow which we ran until 2 years ago when we got a 1660.

Gleaner used the 2 and 3 in a series to signify updates. The A Gleaner became the A2, The C became the C2 and so on.

The C2 was a larger version of the A2. They were good ole dependable machines that were easy to operate and easy to work on.

Hadn't seen this post until today. Glad I saw it - neat to read about (and see) what you have all run.
My Grandpa ran a thresher with neighbors until I think '67, when he bought a new IH 82. He ran that unitl the mid or late '80's when he started hiring his combining done. I ran it a couple years in the mid '90's, before I bought a well-worn Gleaner E (cab, 10'). The third and last year I had the E, my cousin ran it for me, and I ran an Oliver 525 (cab, 11', 2 row, Scour Kleen). Found a Ford 620 (open, 13') that I ran for one year, along with the Oliver. My cousin wan't around after that, so I sold the Oliver, scrapped the Ford, and bought a 985 New Holland (13', 4 RW, 6RN, cab). Ran that until it started giving problems (had covered LOTS of acres before I got it) and then sold it. Bought the NH 1400 I have now in '05 with about 1450 hours on it, just topped 2000 hours this year. Have added heads so I now have 4RW, 6RN, 13' and a pickup. Probably going to add another machine in a couple years... Luke is nearly big enough to run one, and LOVES combines.
